Welcome to JerryLambert.net. Home for the blogs Become Nostalgic About Today, The Brown Parachute Club, and the upcoming Fugly Old Man Fitness. This summary is designed to introduce you to the website, and give you a little background on why these blogs were created. First a little about me. My name is Jerry Lambert and I live in suburban Detroit with my wife and two sons. My professional background is in the field of Information Technology.
In February 2014, I was laid off from my IT job of almost 26 years. Unfortunately, I was in good company that day, since 18 of my co-workers were also let go. Since I was 54 years old at the time, my job prospects were pretty slim. Especially since the job market was focused on hiring part-time employees, in the wake of Obamacare. One day, while driving for Uber, I happened to say to one of my passengers, “Everyone always tells you to save FOR retirement, but they never tell you what to do if you don’t make it TO retirement!”
The idea for The Brown Parachute Club was born. What followed were a series of articles, targeted at my fellow seasoned citizens in the 55-65 age group. Unfortunate folks like me, who were looking for full-time employment, but were unable to find any business willing to hire someone in our age bracket. If this has happened to you, I want you to know you are not alone. Hopefully, you will find these articles helpful and enjoyable.
Become Nostalgic About Today is a different blog altogether. Truly a labor of love. As I have made my way through life, I have experienced random moments of nostalgia that seemed almost magical. For instance, taking a walk on a crisp autumn morning, while hearing school kids at a nearby playground.
That memory was the inspiration for Become Nostalgic About Today. Special moments in life most people pass by without even noticing. The feeling I get when I know I’m experiencing a unique event, something I will remember for many years to come. Even if it’s as simple as listening to kids laughing and playing at a schoolyard on a beautiful fall day.
I hope these articles provide you with some laughs, wistful moments, or provide useful information for your job hunt. As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions.
